Film producer/Author Matthew C Martino has told us he is very worried about the ‘low budget generation’ within the film industry which is becoming a very common trend and it seems the future is heading for times when this becomes a common ‘thing’.
Martino said ‘I’m relatively new to the film industry but all I’ve known has been low budget films, you think of making an international blockbuster and the logistics are just too much and in the end you settle for what you can get’.
Martino has himself even invested in low budget feature films and he says although they have great quality at times due to lack of budget you can’t arrange distribution for the film itself and this means it will never get the exposure it deserves.
Within the UK there are many schemes open for filmmakers including BFI funds and the Creative England fund to name a few however the immediate worry is that many filmmakers are having to rely on crowd funding and credit in order to make films.
When asked what the solution could be, Martino said ‘It needs more of an investment from the government and if there are more funds and grants available to filmmakers this will make it better for most filmmakers to get their products made and their products heard’
